Philosophy

At La Frontera, a child and family team approach is used for all children and families seeking services.  This approach emphasizes the importance of family and the community in a child’s health and development.  The team consists of the child, his/her caregivers (e.g., parents, guardians), and anyone else the family wishes to include, such as a close relative, friend, teacher, CPS worker, probation officer, or other individuals who play an important role in the child’s life.  All team members work together to create a service plan that reflects the family’s unique wishes, strengths, culture, needs, and values.  The team measures progress together until the child and family’s goals are reached.

 Services

  • Outpatient Counseling―Outpatient behavioral health services are provided primarily in a clinic setting with some services provided in the client's home, school, or community.  Service modalities include intake/assessment of the behavioral health needs of the child and her/his family, individual therapy and rehabilitation, family therapy, group therapies, family support services, and facilitation of child and family teams.  Psychiatric services include evaluation and medication management.  Facilitation and case management services are provided for families of children who need more restrictive levels of care.

  • Parent/Guardian Education and Support Groups --- A variety of groups are available for parents/guardians of children birth to 17 years of age.

  • Therapeutic Preschool― The therapeutic preschool provides intensive treatment for children ages 2 to 6 with serious emotional/behavioral issues and their families.

  • Early Intervention― This program provides comprehensive, year-round service to children 2 to 3 years of age with developmental delays in a mainstreamed, community-based classroom setting.

  • DDD Summer Program― This 10-week summer program is for children ages 4–10 with developmental delays who are referred by the Division of Developmental Disabilities and are at risk of regression during the summer break from public school.

  • Therapeutic After-school Program― This service is designed to provide structured activities for children ages 5 to 7 who might otherwise have difficulty interacting in socially appropriate ways.

  • Young Adult Program ― This service provides support to young adults ages 16 to 22 years who are receiving behavioral health services. Participants are assisted with the transition to adulthood by obtaining skills, knowledge, and resources needed to achieve their full potential.
